(www.pinolguitars.com) Carrying a guitar can increase the chances of you getting a date by a third, according to a study by researchers from the University of South Brittany.

The study found that women were 31% more likely to give their number to a man carrying a guitar - double the amount of people who would give their number to the same man when he was empty-handed.

But this technique only works if your a man, women are not seen any more or less attractive if they carry a musical instrument.

HOW WITTINESS AND BEING FUNNY CAN ALSO GET YOU A DATE
Researchers Mary Cowan from the University of Stirling, and Anthony Little filmed 40 psychology students - half men and half women - explaining which two items they'd take to a desert island and why, choosing from chocolate, hairspray or a plastic bag.

Even though they hadn't been told about humour, 19 of the 40 students tried to be funny in their responses.

The next 11 students were played audio recordings of these 19 participants and asked to rate them for funniness, and for the attractiveness.

The magazine revealed that 'a key result is that attractive actors were judged to be funnier.'

It added 'men who were considered funnier also tended to be considered more attractive for both short and long term relationships but especially short term.'

The study was led by Professor Nicolas Gueguen, a researcher in behavioural sciences at the University.

Gueguen hired a 20-year-old man to approach 300 women aged between 18 and 22 in a shopping centre in Brittany.

The man told each girl that they were 'really pretty' and asked for her phone number so they could arrange a date.

For the first 100 women he was holding a sports bag.

For the next 100 women he approached them holding a guitar case.

And for the final 100 women, the man asked them for their number without anything in his hands.

When the actor was carrying the guitar case, 31% of the women gave them his number.

When he was carrying nothing, 14% of the women gave them his number.

The biggest turn off for the women was when he was carrying the sports bag, which had a success rate of only 9%.

English singer and musician David Bowie topped the list of the 20 sexiest male musicians of all time, according to LA Weekly. The 66-year-old has been married twice. His current wife is Somalian fashion model Iman Abdulmajid

TOP TEN SEXIEST SONGS
According to Guitar World, the top ten songs which all budding musicians must learn if they want to impress a woman are:

1. More Than Words - Extreme

2. Crash - Dave Matthews Band

3. Melissa - Allman Brothers Band

4. Just Like Heaven - The Cure

5. Name - Goo Goo Dolls

6. Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton

7. You And Me - Lifehouse

8. Baby I Love Your Way - Peter Frampton

9. Your Body Is a Wonderland - John Mayer

10. Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You - Led Zeppelin

Gueguen's findings mirror those from a study carried out by the University of Tel Aviv and Ben Gurion University last year.

In the Israeli study, 100 single women were sent Facebook friend requests with a message that said: 'I like your photo'.

Half of the respondents were sent a request by a man seen strumming a guitar in his profile picture.

The other half were sent a request from the same person, but this time he was empty handed.

Only five (10%) of the 50 women accepted the request, or replied to the message sent by the empty-handed man.

Yet 28% accepted the request, or replied to the message sent by the man holding a guitar.

The French researchers attribute these findings to the fact that playing a musical instrument is a sign that the man is intelligent, can learn, or is willing to learn, new skills and has independent hobbies.

They believe there may also be a link between how musicans are portrayed in the media, and that holding a guitar is a sign of wealth and status.

The team from the University of South Brittany also wanted to test whether the same theory was true when it came to female musicians.

Gueguen's team repeated the Israeli study, but used females to send the friend requests.

He found there was no difference in the response rate of the men she sent requests to whether she was holding a guitar or not.

This suggests that its only women who consider playing an instrument to be an attractive trait

Why Are Really Fine Guitars So Expensive And What Makes Pinol Guitars Better Than A Factory-Made Guitar or Ukulele?

A. Why is a Mercedes, Lexus or a Rolls Royce automobile so expensive? The answer to our question may answer your question to us.

Very fine workmanship and tone is very difficult to come by and requires a high degree of discipline on the part of the craftsman. It cannot be done inexpensively in a factory setting, although some do the very best they can. There are very few craftsmen in the world that have the ability to achieve in a guitar, that extremely high standard of quality. This translates into the time, energy, expertise and materials expended over a considerable amount of time and labor to produce the true "labor of love." The value of their work must be appreciated accordingly.

Going back to the automobile as an analogy: Those that cannot afford the higher priced automobiles will consider a lower priced one to be just as good for their purposes and those that can afford the higher prices models will assert that there is no comparison. In like manner, the guitarist will purchase what he can afford and try to be happy accordingly. It’s all a matter of attitude, opinion and budget.

Consider this: Purchase any new automobile and in ten years consider yourself lucky if it is worth one tenth its purchase price. Those that have purchased Pinol Guitars instruments have realized a doubling or tripling in value. In our analogy expense is an attitude, or mind set when comparing a depreciating asset to one that appreciates like a Pinol Guitars.

Q.What is the difference between Cocobolo and Brazilian rosewood?

A. Both of these species of wood are of the scientific name of dalbergia. Cocobolo being dalbergia retusa and Brazilian rosewood being dalbergia nigra.
Brazilian rosewood has been the wood of choice for the finest guitars since early times. Cocobolo has been discovered recently for the use on instruments and is a very good alternative to Brazilian rosewood since that species is endangered and can no longer be traded across international borders.
We have been building with Cocobolo for 80 years www.pinolguitars.com and find it every bit as good acoustically as the Brazilian variety. It is a little heavier in weight but it can be thinned to bring its weight in line. Thinning is not a problem since the wood is quite stronger and less problematic than Brazilian rosewood. In the hands of a Master Craftsmen like the one's at https://www.facebook.com/PinolGuitars, practicing good techniques and procedures, its beauty is unsurpassed.

Q. How long does it take to make a Pinol Guitars?

A. Pinol Guitars are made in batches of anywhere from 8 to 17 at a time. Components are made and cured several years in advance. We do not build on an order-only basis but batches are in constant process of Hand Made assembly.

How to Be a Guitar God ( www.pinolguitars.com )

How to Be a Guitar God

1. Start playing now

2. Practice until your fingers bleed
3. Surround yourself with talented musicians
4. Be precise
5. Learn how to read guitar tab
6. Study classical music
7. Learn the ins and outs of reading music
8. Understand chord theory
9. Play with emotion
10. Buy A Pinol Guitar

Warnings
• Playing on a cheap guitar has its own set of problems that you have to watch out for. A bad enough guitar can create bad habits, such as:
• -ruining your pitch perception with a poorly cut nut or warped neck that will never play in tune.
• Also, low-quality guitars make lots of people quit because what they are playing sounds bad and they assume it's their fault when it isn't. A dead fret is a dead fret. You can put a vise on it and it won't matter. So consider these issues when you're thinking about how much money you should invest into a guitar. Remember, Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page once said that a beginning guitarist should buy a nice guitar because better equipment fosters better technique. But only do this if you know you can stay committed to playing guitar.
• -avoiding some chords and notes because they sound bad on poorly dressed frets
• -pressing so hard you make all the notes sharp; avoiding the use of correct fingering (to favor "stronger" fingers)
• One big problem with many cheap guitars is that the action, or how far the strings are from the fingerboard, is too high. This makes it tough to fret notes and you may end up pressing too hard. However, this problem is easy to solve. Just take your guitar to a guitar shop and they will lower the action, often for free. If they charge, ask whether they do the work in-house or send it out; in the latter case, find out who the real luthier is and establish a relationship with at least one expert guitar technician.
• If you have a demanding practice regimen and have a break, work yourself back into it gradually or you may injure yourself.

How To Choose A Guitar ( www.pinolguitars.com )

How To Choose A Guitar

1. Most important, only select a guitar you know is fully inspected and adjusted for easy playability, accuracy in tuning, intonation and tone production.
(There is no greater impedance to progress, developing propertechnique and the enjoyment of learning to play than a poorly constructed instrument.)
2. Choose a guitar that interests you the most. This way you will be more motivated to play and practice, practice and more practice.
(Many people mistakenly purchase an inexpensive acoustic guitar when they may really want an electric one. This is almost like buying a guarantee for failure. A cheaply made acoustic guitar will certainly lead you to quit before you are able to find your” OWN SOUND”.
3. Select the right size guitar
(Especially true for children; a guitar that is too large will make it difficult for your child to make the proper reach with both the right and left hands.
4. Select a guitar that does not sell at the bottom of the price barrel
(This may seem a little difficult without giving you accurate numbers, but the old adage is almost always true, “You get what you pay for”. Cheaply made guitars are not really playable or adjustable. They are not worth your time or money.
5. Avoid guitars and packages that promise to be a tremendous value for an amazingly low price! We have all fallen for this old trick.
(“If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is”.Guitar packages valued at $800.00 and selling for only $199.00. I have never seen a car worth 10,000 dollars sell for 2,000 dollars. The same is with any Instrument.)
6. Do not fall into the so-called major "Brand Name" trap. Don’t be a FOOL
(Obviously the cost of media advertising is included in the overall cost of the instrument. You may end up paying more for the brand name while the quality is the same or paying a competitive price for an instrument of less quality. Stop paying someone else’s RENT!)
7. Select a guitar with a finish and color you enjoy
(A guitar that not only plays and sounds well but also appeals to you visually can greatly contribute to your motivation to play and practice, practice and more practice).
8. Be sure to include an electronic tuner when you select your guitar
(Tuners are as important as having picks and strings. A guitar tuner actually helps you develop your musical ear much more quickly than learning to tune by ear alone.

Important steps to follow before the “BIG” purchase!

Written by: www.pinolguitars.com

Have patience  You do “NOT” need to buy it “NOW”.

Maintain control - We have the buying power, and thus we are in charge!

Research - Web is a great place to find info on guitars. Use it to your advantage!

Get help -   Possible, recruit a friend who plays guitar to help you choose an instrument. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and you do not have to be an expert guitarist to get a good deal on a good guitar. What you do have to be is a disciplined shopper. Do your best to ignore everyone else, and keep focus on finding the best guitar possible.

Get set up properly- Find a guitar that appeals to you only, not your girlfriend or playing buddies. Remember, you have to be the one practicing alone for hours and hours.

Play the guitar the same way you would at home- To hear the tonal qualities of a guitar, it needs to be played at a reasonable volume. Strum the open strings hard - listen to the sustain, and note problems like buzzing strings. If you hear any problems once you get the guitar contact the manufacturer and let them know the problem immediately.

Play something you're comfortable with- Now is not the time to show off. Concentrate on the guitar, not on who is listening to you. Play each fret on each string on the neck slowly, making sure there are no buzzes. If you know how, check the guitar's intonation. If playing an electric guitar, try all of the different pick-up combinations, and listen for unwanted noise.

Take your time- Write down the manufacturer of the guitar, the model number, and the price. Ask what type of wood the guitar is made of. Note any special likes or dislikes you have about each guitar. Fortunately, the web is filled with sites that archive user-reviews of guitars. Check the guitar review for critiques of both acoustic and electric guitars. When studying these reviews, take special notice of the prices people paid for the instrument, and carefully consider all criticism.

NEVER- Pay list price for a guitar. Just as in car prices, the list price of a guitar is usually greatly inflated.

With this knowledge, you should be able to bring home a new guitar you are happy with, at a price that won't bust your budget. Best of luck, and happy hunting…
